Salix Homes backs the Axe Safety Tax Campaign
Salix Homes is backing a campaign to make Britain’s homes safer.
The Axe Safety Tax Campaign is calling on the Government to scrap the 20% VAT on all safety products that go into homes such as fire alarms, carbon monoxide detectors, gas safety checks, fire doors and fire extinguishers.
Salix Homes chief executive Lee Sugden has previously written to the Chancellor Phillip Hammond calling for similar measures in the wake of the Grenfell Tower tragedy.
Lee said: “There should not be a price on people’s safety and this has never been more apparent than since the Grenfell Tower tragedy.
“Salix Homes is committed to raising the bar of safety standards in our properties. By abolishing VAT on home safety items, not only will this help us and other housing associations to invest more in homes to ensure they meet the highest standard of safety possible, but will also help all members of the public purchase important home safety measures at a more affordable price.”
The campaign has been launched by gas safety technology company, Gas Tag, and has already had a number of high profile supporters including MPs and former footballers Jamie Carragher and Robbie Fowler.
